JFK is getting "Bluer"
August 2004
|
|
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Wednesday approved the construction of a new USD$875 million terminal for JetBlue Airways at John F Kennedy International Airport.
The new terminal will be 640,000 square feet and house 26 gates. It will also include a new parking garage with more than 1,500 spaces. Construction is expected to begin in 2005.
Congratulations to Jet Blue on their new terminal, though we will miss seeing you at Terminal 4. Can't wait to see the new Terminal.
The historic TWA Terminal next door to Jet Blue has been something of a landmark to everyone at JFK. Certainly tour worthy. We're sorry to see it go but we are happy that it will be of use again.
Good Luck again Jet Blue.

Congradulations SIA
June 28, 2004
|
|
Seems like we just ran this story in February, but nevertheless, SIA is breaking the worlds record for the longest flight. This time however it is their own record they break. This flight, SIA022/021, departs from Changi and arrives in Newark just 18 hours later. Tonight, Flight Ops International will send it back in the opposite direction. This flight will save 4 hours over the EWR-AMS-SIN route previously run by the Singapore B-747-400.

Jet Blue goes International
June 10, 2004
|
|
Rapidly growing, low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways on Thursday launched its first international flight -- to the Dominican Republic.
The New York-based airline, which already flies to the US commonwealth of Puerto Rico, has begun service to Santiago in the Dominican Republic and plans to launch service to Santo Domingo, the capital city, on June 17.
Barely four years after its launch, the carrier plans to expand its fleet by 150 planes and its work force by 18,000 in the next seven years. JetBlue also plans to launch service to Canada and Mexico, Chief Executive David Neeleman said in May.

Virgin USA to turn heads
June 7, 2004
|
|
Virgin USA’s owner, Mr. Richard Branson, announced late last week that JFK would be the headquarters of the LA based operator. With plans to lease or buy up to 100 (if not more) aircraft for its startup, this low cost carrier may prove to be the most revolutionary airline the USA has ever seen. Virgin USA will be, almost immediately after its inauguration, the newest and biggest player in the US scene. A startup airline armed with a fleet of one hundred or more new aircraft? It doesn’t seem real.
It is real, Branson assures, and soon we will be seeing this new carrier take to the skies over the United States. We will bring more information on this startup as its path becomes clearer.
Days back it seemed as though the “Open Skies Act” would finally become a reality, perhaps next year. Instead of openly disregarding cabatoge, the USA will instead tolerate the obvious blurring of the term as foreign airlines become major investors and proprietors of US based airlines. Amazing times.

Emirates at Terminal 4
June 1, 2004
|
|
Emirates Airlines, the gem of the Middle East, has chosen JFK as its gateway airline into the United States of America. Today Emirates launches its daily flight to Dubai, which will in turn, tie the United States closer to the Asia-Pacific, Africa, India, and the Middle East countries.
So far Emirates serves over 70 destinations worldwide. This particular flight, EK 201/202 will arrive in JFK at 2pm local and depart at 11:30pm that night. Plans for the future do include doubling the flights out of JFK, in preparation for the A380 slated for 2006. JFK will most likely see its first A380 from Emirates Airlines (only other possibility being Singapore Airlines who will receive the aircraft first).
Emirates First and Business Class passengers can lounge in a 12,000 square foot lounge sporting a 280 degree view of the field. While onboard, 500 channels of television are at their disposal as well as pampering by technological advances in lighting that reset the body’s internal clocks; minimizing jet lag. Elements such as bio friendly lighting, world class service, the newest jets Airbus has to offer, come together in a remarkable fashion to give passengers the finest in travel in the modern world.
Welcome to New York!

Summer Time
May 1, 2004
|
|
The temperature is rising and so are the gas prices. It must be summer. Good luck to everyone at JFK, EWR and ORD as we begin this summer season. The EWR and JFK stations are looking forward to the Airbus 340-500 training this May 10-12th for Singapore. We can't wait for the long hauls to begin this summer, and neither can Singapore. During the training we'll have some pictures taken of the aircraft and the training itself, however we are still deciding on a site to post them on. We'll figure something out eventually, but if anyone would like a sneak preview please email us at Editor@FlightOpsInternational.com.
